Forced Smoking Abstinence


Tobacco use contributes to over 400 000 deaths annually. Many successful interventions have been developed for smoking cessation, but the success of smoking  relapse–prevention interventions is limited.  Forced tobacco abstinence alone during incarceration has little impact on postrelease smoking status. Does a behavioral intervention provided prior to the release improve smoking cessation?
